Resolution

I resolve to live, you said
in awe of the mundane

the moment my fish catch food
a toothless man whistling

the mornings I woke in terror, in darkness
and marvel at the purple of the sky

I can’t think of anything
that isn’t a miracle

so let me say: I resolve
to live in awe

four children I have somehow created
each of their thoughts more epic than the last

there are still new stories to discover
and a few of them to live

that my throat can be choked and still open after
to take in new air

that after surviving the year of last year
I’m not only alive

but can find in me
the want to be

let me say it like this:
I resolve to live
