Hey You, You’re Wearing Your Mask Wrong

“Have you grown over the pandemic?”
My response is, with a glance down, “horizontally”

but all this recent silence has taken
root in my head and I’m not sure what’s sprouted

I’m waiting for the messiah like an overdue apology
when unbidden I realize
maybe I just forgot to say please

G-d only gives us problems we can solve
easy to say, you’re still alive

The nights grow longer, like winter
or being grounded, or waiting for rescue

in a dark room you notice
every pinprick of light

and that is how I know
there are still miracles
