Raccoons in Brooklyn

Assigned myself as the pet
of two local raccoons.

I nest in their tree, eat
leftovers, sleep at their feet

some call me pest but not my
masters. They take good care.

They are warm and so am I.
When winter sets in we

suffer together, burrow together,
hold each other against the world.

If spring should come, we’ll
see if my wings will grow.
