What Are We Waiting For?

What are we waiting for?
We are droplets of water
on the outskirts of a fire
that burns the world.
We have nothing left
but each other.
By morning, we’ll have

Everyone left behind:
mist and condensation.

Meanwhile, the fire burns.

I love you because you want to live
that much longer.
I love you because you consider
those you love.

I love you because
you’ll mess it up
for everybody
and say sorry
like you mean it
and the rest of us
will believe you true
because who wants to admit
we knew it all along?

[sc name="ad-300x600"]

Especially since we stood there with you
in your hour
of need
in your moment
of risk
you stood your ground

just like us.

Meanwhile, the world burns.
