Bulletproof Stockings: “Easy Pray” – The Hevria Sessions

In “Easy Pray” there are two conversations going on. One between the narrator and G-d, and the other between the narrator and their yetzer hara. In this song, the evil inclination tries to make a case for itself, “consider this, we work together, you are not a passive partner, you have control over your decisions.”

Where is rock bottom? How do you know when you’ve reached rock bottom? It seems you could just keep falling endlessly. Rock bottom is whenever you say, “Stop! Enough!” and from there you can only move upwards.

Lyrics

Rock bottom is when I say stop
And I followed you all the way down to the top
And I came to the conclusion you’d preset to be
Illuminate for me
Does this take away or validate
My right to breathe
Can you tell me now
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

Forbidden passages always tempt thee
Why you succumb is my point of intrigue
Fulfill my quota easily, so easily
My presence is now a source of contempt
But how can you feel you should be exempt
I run only with permission
Granted me by your submission

Ascending the ladder
Would be to labor more than I can conjure
But if you stay for me
I’ll be there sometime tomorrow
Once when we’d just met
Clouds parted just so
Everything in tempo
Horizon out of view
Is it enough to come see you

You think my job here is to enervate
A spurious friend you seek to extirpate
How many times must I explain, I explain
My execution is flawless I know
But there’s no glory in watching you implode
Not too often is it a challenge
Give in so simply and break your balance

Ascending the ladder
Would be to labor more than I can conjure
But if you stay for me
I’ll be there sometime tomorrow
Once when we’d just met
Clouds parted just so
Everything in tempo
Horizon out of view
Is it enough to come see you

Rock bottom is when I say stop
When I say stop
When I say stop
Said you keep on falling
Said you keep on falling
Said you keep on falling
You better say stop
And rock bottom is when I say
